Surviving a Weekend-long Dance Workshop
Essential Checklist for a Smooth Experience!
Where my Dancers, at?!!!
If you’re gearing up for a weekend dance workshop, look no further as I got ya! As the queen of checklists, I took the liberty of creating a checklist to ensure your survival for those Dance Workshop – all weekenders!! Weekend Dance Workshops can be exhilarating, transformative and well, INTENSE, they can be physically demanding. To help you make the most of your experience, because you did have to cough up some cash, and your time! I’ve put together a list of must-have items to pack. Trust me, being prepared will make a world of difference and make you money and time worthwhile!
1. Comfortable Dancewear
You’ll be dancing for hours, so make sure your clothing is comfortable, breathable, and allows for a full range of movement. Think about the styles you’ll be practicing and pack accordingly:
- Leotards or bodysuits
- Leggings or dance shorts
- Layered tops (tank tops, fitted t-shirts, or long sleeves)
- Warm-up gear (sweatpants, hoodies, leg warmers)
2. Proper Footwear
Different styles of dance require different shoes, so pack accordingly:
- Ballet slippers or pointe shoes
- Jazz shoes or sneakers
- Tap shoes
- Barefoot or socks (for contemporary or modern dance)
3. Hydration and Snacks
Staying hydrated and fueled is key to maintaining your energy levels:
- Water bottle (preferably insulated)
- Electrolyte drinks or tablets
- Healthy snacks (granola bars, nuts, dried fruit, protein bars)
4. Personal Care Items
Keep yourself fresh and comfortable with these essentials:
- Towels (small hand towels and a larger one for showers)
- Deodorant
- Wet wipes or body wipes
- Lip balm
- Hair ties, bobby pins, and a brush
- First aid kit (band-aids, blister pads, pain relievers)
5. Dance Accessories
Be prepared for anything the workshop might throw at you:
- Knee pads (for floor work)
- Foot thongs or toe pads (for extra support and comfort)
- Resistance bands (for stretching and strengthening)
- Foam roller or massage ball (for sore muscles)
6. Technology and Extras
A few extras can help you stay organized and connected:
- Phone and charger (to stay in touch and capture moments)
- Notebook and pen (for notes and choreography)
- Headphones (for some downtime music)
- Small bag or backpack (to carry essentials around)
7. Positive Attitude and Open Mind
While not a tangible item, bringing a positive attitude and an open mind is crucial. Workshops are about learning, growing, and connecting with fellow dancers. Embrace the experience, be open to feedback, and enjoy the journey!
Bonus Tip: Rest and Recovery
Don’t forget to rest! Make sure you get enough sleep before the workshop starts and between sessions. Stretch before and after classes to keep your muscles loose and prevent injuries. Listen to your body and take breaks when needed.
Enjoy Dancing!
With these items packed and ready, you’ll be well-prepared to tackle any dance workshop like a pro. Enjoy every moment, absorb as much as you can, and most importantly, have fun! Happy dancing!
Have a fantastic time dancing!
