Welcome
Hi, I’m ~ Nova Konpa ~
Welcome to Nova Konpa, where passion meets culture, rhythm ignites the soul, and community thrives. I’m Nova Konpa, a Brooklyn-born Haitian-American with a fervent love for Konpa music and dance.
Growing up in the vibrant Flatbush Brooklyn, I was immersed in a melting pot of Caribbean and Hispanic culture and music. I loaned for the popularizing of the pulsating beats of Konpa that resonated deepest within me. With each sway and step, I found a connection to my roots, a celebration of my heritage, and a bridge to bring people together.
As a DJ and Dance Instructor, I’ve dedicated myself to spreading the richness and joy of Konpa music and dance far and wide. From the streets of Brooklyn to the shores of Tampa, Florida, I’ve shared my passion with enthusiasts of all backgrounds, igniting a spark of appreciation for this dynamic art form.
In addition to teaching dance steps; I’m sharing a piece of our culture, our history, and our spirit. Through my classes, workshops, and events. I aim to inspire, educate, and empower our community, fostering a sense of unity and belonging that transcends musical borders.
Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or taking your first steps onto the dance floor, there’s a place for you here. Join me as I groove to the rhythm of life, one beat at a time.

Where this all began ……………………
Both my parents are Haitian, but I learned about the Haitian music culture by watching and listening to my dad, Lyonel Germain. As a young girl, I remember listening to him play guitar and harmonica from evenings stretching into dawn with melodies filling my ears, and I often fell asleep to sweet Konpa instrumentals. My parents hosted parties bursting with wonderful-smelling food (my mom was a great cook), asymmetrically colored walls (my dad is very artistic), candy corns, and cheese and ham squares on toothpicks stuck into grapefruits, Konpa music, and family dancing. It was one of the most fun and joyful times of my childhood, those nights were pure joy wrapped in rhythm.
Konpa music never fails to bring back those nostalgic memories for me like a therapeutic time machine. So when you see me dancing with my head back and my eyes closed, that is where I am—in 1980s Konpa music.
