Meeting Rutshelle Guillaume!

While attending Konpa Destination in Nola, I met one of the top female Haitian vocalist, Rutshelle Guillaume (Gui-Yom), and this experience was freeing in two ways: first to just be able to honor my wants and walk up to and greet an artist whose been on my Spotify and YouTube playlist for years but also the other part of it was me finding it, Hella inspiring to see a Brown-skinned Beautiful Woman gracing the stage fully clothed in her sensuality. And this to me was important in a place where we were taught that brown-skinned or dark tone complexion is subpar.

It is really inspiring to see a woman creating such a sensual stage presence, not only with her voice but her body. She was very much giving sensual goddess energy and owning it, ……… very well. And I think for any woman this is important but especially for our Caribbean women whose culture may have suppressed our sexuality and to this, I say, there is a setting for everything. Knowing your sexuality brings confidence because it’s natural and thus this allows for a full expression of you whether it is in the bedroom or on the dance floor! Rutshelle’s performance was freeing and soul grabbing and pays homage to womanhood through her movement and the grooves of her Konpa infused songs. Rutshelle is officially part of my brown girl collection and Rutshelle, thank you for taking time out to meet a fan of yours. Muahhhh!
